entry: You said that didn't use refs. Well in that case your art skills and anatomy knowledge has been good tools, a lot of experience drawing or sculpting is the best for a 3d character artist.
As I said this is an amazing introduction to 3d world and the digital sculpt of course, fantastic girl face!
